Story

Strange things are happening in the Land of the Dead. Instead of reaping souls, Thanatos, the Angel of Death, has to deal with his teenage daughter Prim. Every night, Prim has the same dream: An oddly familiar human boy cries out for her help. Needless to say that our heroine tries to answer the call. There's just one tiny problem: The Grim Reaper has strictly fordbidden her to enter the Realm of the Living - she's not ready for the immense power she'd develop there, he claims. Unfortunately, when Prim finds a way to trick her father and travel to Earth, it painfully turns out that Thanatos's presentiments have been right all along...

Play as Death's daughter and switch between the Land of the Dead and the Realm of the Living, solve puzzles, meet quirky characters and finally uncover a carefully-hidden truth...

Characters

Prim

As Death's daughter and the only child in the Land of the Dead, Prim leads an extraordinary, but also often lonely life. She has always had the feeling that she is meant for something bigger. When she starts having strange dreams about a boy from the Realm of the Living, she feels that her time has come to break out...

She could put her plan into practice easily, if it wasn't for her father, Thanatos. Due to her clumsiness and immaturity, he fears that teribble things might happen as soon as she arrives on Earth and discovers what she's capable of...

Despite being bumbling, Prim is a creative, witty and crafty girl - so, for the player, she's the ideal companion for an adventure game!

Thanatos

Over the ages, he's been called by many names: Thanatos, the Grim Reaper, the Pale Rider, the Angel of Death. Who would have guessed that the most frightening of them all - at least to him - would be "Dad"? On the one hand, Thanatos is really worried about the well-being of his beloved offspring, but on the other hand, Prim can't get rid of the feeling that her father's true motives for not letting her go have to do with something he's been hiding from her all her life...

Aunt Keres

In contrast to Thanatos, the god of passing away peacefully, Prim's aunt Keres is the Goddess of Violent Death. However, she has always been fond of her niece and plays a crucial part in Prim's escape...

Inspiration

When we created the world of PRIM, we were heavily inspired by GREEK MYTHOLOGY. Characters like Thanatos, Keres, Hades, Charon (the ferryman) and the Fates, as well as locations such as the river Styx directly derive from these ancient tales. Nevertheless, it was important for us to develop a unique setting, this is why we took these elements out of ancient Greece and transported them to an alternative universe in the 19th century, where everything is black and white.

This directly leads us to the look of PRIM. Describing our style as "creepy but cute", we got our inspiration from twisted masterminds like TIM BURTON (Corpse Bride, Frankenweenie) and HENRY SELICK (Nightmare Before Christmas, Coraline). Furthermore, gloomy black-and-white drawings are also trademarks of our lead artist, OSKAR ALVARADO from Mexico.

For the music of PRIM, we intend to convey a very Danny Elfman-ish mood by using orchestral instruments, unusual chord sequences and creepy solo vocalist sounds. Check out "Media" to get a first impression!

Finally, PRIM's game design is influenced by beloved classics of the adventure game genre: What we love about the epic MONKEY ISLAND series is that it combines and old-fashioned setting with modern elements (just think of the grog machines) and we also try to include that type of thinking in our game. Prim's look and gameplay, however, are rather influenced by modern adventure games like DEPONIA: Prim is a handdrawn 2D game in FULL HD and uses a one-click interface with item hot spots.

Team

Come a little closer, we'd like to tell you a secret! Since many people are having problems pronouncing our company name CMMN CLRS, let's clear up the confusion once and for all. You say "Common Colors" and here's why: When we started making adventure games in 2016, our members came from Germany and Belgium, two countries with the same colors in their national flags. In addition to that, "common colors" also meant that we share similar ideas about what makes a good game, of course.

In the year 2018, CMMN CLRS's homebase is still in Frankfurt, Germany, but other team members live in Mexico and the USA (see below).

Jonas Fisch from Frankfurt, Germany, isn't only the creative mind behind PRIM and therefore constructed the characters and the story, he's also programming the game using the Visionaire Studio adventure game engine.

He's been working as an indie game developer since 2016 and has published three short adventure games so far ("Diary of a Roadie", "Sidekick High" and "door"). You can play the games here: https://gamejolt.com/@CMMN_CLRS

Sascha Schneider a.k.a. Ptomaine Art is a Berlin-based graphic-, video- and media artist. Sascha has already worked with Jonas on their short game "Sidekick High", which he enriched with his stylish backgrounds, quirky character art and even a voice over cameo. For PRIM, he's responsible for background art, chacacter art and additional game design.

Bryan Atkinson from Mesa, AZ (USA) is a composer for film and media and has composed music for feature films, documentaries, short films, and games encompassing a wide variety of genres. As a collaborative artist he is passionate about bringing creative visions to life through musical storytelling.

For as long as he can remember, music has intrigued and inspired him. A classical piano performance was his first musical training. He continued to write piano pieces until college, where he received a degree in audio production. This helped propel him into the world of producing and recording music, after which time he supplemented his education with classes in composition, orchestration, mixing, and similar disciplines.

Bryan has composed the game soundtrack for the CMMN CLRS games "Sidekick High" and "door".

Oskar Alvarado Mendoza (born in Guadalajara) is a Mexican illustrator, animator and composer whose work include the comics series Penumbra and the animated short-films Sonámbulo and Murnau the Vampire.

Oskar has been busy the last years making short-films and fleshing-out old and new ideas. In 2004 he was invited to attend the Blender Conference in Amsterdam where he presented his project Roboto, a series of ten shorts about robots. His most ambitious project until now has been Murnau the Vampire, the first Mexican animation film realized on DVD format. It was presented at the 2007 Blender Conference and the band Theatre

des Vampires collaborated in the soundtrack.

In recent years, he's been working as a game artist.
